What Algor Education is?

INTRO

Algor Education is an innovative digital platform that enhances learning through advanced tools for creating concept maps and interactive educational content. Tailored for students, teachers, and educational institutions, Algor Education provides a wide array of features, including the automatic generation of concept maps from text, video, and audio.

Problems

WHERE TO START
  • Insufficient user feedback to ensure the proper evolution of the platform.
  • Lack of a structured system architecture, limiting scalability and adaptability to evolving user needs
  • Insufficient focus on users with disabilities, including DSA and BES, limiting accessibility and usability.

Benchmarking

Phase 1

An in-depth competitive analysis was conducted, examining both direct and indirect competitors to assess key functionalities and identify experience gaps. We also explored research on the best learning methods to inform design decisions. This comprehensive benchmarking process allowed us to optimize usability, enhance accessibility, and ensure a more intuitive user experience.

Interface Revamp Begins

PHASE 2

After completing the benchmark, we identified the need for an interface that accommodates various learning methods, offering users complete freedom to choose their preferred study approach without promoting any specific one.

Below, you can see one of the initial versions created:

Selected UX/UI Improvements

PHASE 3

We adopted a layered analysis approach, starting from a macro-level overview and progressively focusing on the micro-level details of each component. This method allowed us to identify optimization opportunities, enhance readability, and improve overall usability.

Below, you'll find a detailed analysis of one element:

Design System Creation (Icon)

PHASE 4

The entire research and design phase was accompanied by the update and development of a comprehensive design system, featuring over 150 icons. Each icon was crafted in 6 different variations, carefully selected based on the context of use to ensure maximum visual consistency and functionality in every situation.

Transition from a Simple Concept Map to Algor Cards

PHASE 5

I played a key role in Algor's strategic transformation, evolving it from a company focused on creating concept maps based on text, video, and audio to an innovator in the development of Algor Cards.

These new Cards offer:

  • Navigable and editable concept maps
  • Summaries automatically divided into paragraphs
  • Flashcards to test knowledge by filling in the blanks
  • Quizzes with more complex questions, featuring a dropdown system to view the correct answers

Challenge and Objectives:

CASE STUDY

Create a learning system (following the HDC methodology) that offers various study modes, giving users the freedom to choose the method that best fits their learning style. This flexibility allows for exploring and mastering content in diverse and personalized ways, making the educational experience more effective and engaging.

Testing

PHASE 6

The quantitative testing process was meticulous and detailed. We started with a base of around 20,000 paying users and over 100,000 registered users, selecting an initial 5% to apply the first interface changes in a granular way (granular to make it easier to pinpoint the exact element or flow where users experienced the most uncertainty). This approach allowed us to refine the user experience in a targeted and precise manner.

Data Driven Design

PHASE 7

During the testing phase, which included recordings and other methods, specific navigation flows were identified and tested through micro-flows to better understand user drop-off rates and precisely pinpoint potential improvements using MX Panel. Throughout this process, expectations regarding user behavior were also defined and then compared with the actual data collected by the software. This comparison enabled the analysis of discrepancies between expected and actual behaviors, providing concrete insights for optimizing the user experience.

The Result

THE CONCLUSION

After five months of intense work, user testing, and the production of multiple prototypes, we are excited to present the final result:
